Anathema - We're Here Because We're Here
Ok ok ok. I know this album is not Metal by any means, BUT Anathema once were a doom metal band so it counts for them to be up here, plus the fact I fucking love this album.
Anathema is easily in my top 5 favorite bands. I love all 8 of their albums and the evolution in their styles between putting them out. They have evolved their sound a few times and Ive kept with them through each change totally diggin it. Starting from their doom phase, to their more progressive but still grasping some metal elements where the songs had some angst, heaviness, progressive or depressive themes to them. That style now merged into a now mellow atmopheric rock where the songs are about spirituality, love, and freedom and I once again love it. This new style brings to the table a new energy Anthema never expressed through music and they pull it off well. It also brings more attention, not alot, but more to newly recruited backing vocalist Lee Douglas. She was featured on the title track of the last album A Natural Disaster which I was totally stoked about because her voice is absolutely enchanting and wanted to hear more of her. All in all, this album is beautiful and uplifting and I feel is worthy of being mentioned.
I would recommend this album to any previous fan of Anathema who are open-minded to a milder change of pace or even to fans of Pink Floyd who just want to chill. This album while developing a new style of their own, still keeps elements from ealier pieces of work to appeal the fans of Anthema's previous works, if they are open to change. Anathema are showing in, We're Here Because We're Here themselves evolving towards a new style that is yet again keeping me interested and looking forward to what they will produce next.
