Where o' where has Mortifera gone?...
Maledictiih is a weak follow up to their last album, Vastiia Tenebrd Mortifera. This was one of my most anticipated releases of 2010 and I dont know if it was the extreme excitement and anticipation that could have the set my bar of expectation at an unreasonable level, or if its the fact this album fucking sucks...But either way, after listening to it I am extremely let down.
The biggest turn off for me is the change in vocal styles. Nukto abandoned the high screeching tones like in previous works (Le Revenant and Ciel Brouille being my favorites). The depressive atmosphere Nukto adds with his piercing shrieks is what made me love this band, but its the main element missing in Maledictiih. The vocals are a tad deeper, not piercing and honestly piss me off because I feel this album has no emotion behind it.
In short, Maledictiih lacks the atmosphere and depth that the previous work, Vastiia Tenebrd Mortifera set up so perfectly. Ugh, I feel like I just got majorly ripped off.
